Fathers:

The number of priests in Portugal came to decline in recent years. This is reflected in the new demographic order and distance society from the Church, thereby lowering the parish priests. Previously in families with more than one child, according to family tradition, one of them went to Father. Mainly in the 60s, one of the family was the priesthood. One of the causes of the reduction of the priesthood was the declining number of children per couple.

In 54 priests were ordained in 2000 and in 2007 there was a decrease, since only 31 were ordained priests and 68 priests have died. Increasing the number of available priests is a degree more advanced age through a serious crisis. Although more and more parents want to reach young people, they are not as interested and motivated by the vocation of the priesthood.
