Air hostess

An air hostess is a professional who works on board an aircraft, ensuring the safety of passengers.

The profession of air hostess, first emerged in 1930 by a claiming woman, Ellen Church, who was in love with aviation but couldn’t fly a plane because she was a woman, Ellen Church suggested the Boeing Air Transport to put nurses on aircraft to care for the health and safety of passengers during the flight. The first women to be hired should be unmarried, they couldn’t have children, and they should obey to a standard of weight and height, but they had a very low salary. The idea was very successful, because women on board passed safety to passengers, since the women were considered a weak figure, and having women working on board was the idea for travellers that the plane was not as dangerous as they thought. Because of the World War II, nurses were called to the battlefield and airlines began to place women in top-level board, but without losing the charm and elegance, as this would represent the professional company.

From the moment the passenger enters the aircraft, their safety and comfort are the responsibility of the air hostess. The air hostess demonstrates emergency procedures adopted by the company and take care of passengers throughout the journey.

The first air hostess uniforms were designed to be durable, practical, and inspire confidence in passengers. The first air hostess uniform for United Airlines wore green berets, green capes and nurse's shoes.
Air hostess are generally expected to show a high level of personal grooming. Female attendants are expected to use appropriate cosmetics, and all attendants must have very high levels of personal hygiene.
Air hostess must not have any tattoos visible when a uniform is worn. These requirements are designed to give the airlines a positive representation.
